If you’re in your 20s or 30s and want to travel while earning a living, this is for you.
The world is vast and filled with different cultures, magical stories, and the best knowledge you’ll ever receive — the very definition of life lessons.
This journey begins when you take a plane to a new country.
Try local cuisines, whether a signature dish or a fudge so sweet it’s practically a dessert for diabetics.
You’ll experience strange customs and even stranger business practices. Travel equips you with life tools to connect with anyone, no matter their background.
You’ll also get better at navigating unfamiliar places — you definitely won’t get lost easily anymore!
The Work and Travel Program
The work and travel program for internationals is one of the best ways to explore the world while earning a living.
I took this opportunity to achieve my financial goals and see a world completely different from my own.
Stepping out of my familiar bubble to venture into new lands was an adventure I’ll never forget. My only regret? Not starting earlier.
If you’re still in your 20s, don’t wait — do it now.
For those unfamiliar, the H2B and H1B programs are excellent options to explore.

How to Get a Job Like This
Times have changed since I applied, but the methods I’m about to share are still effective today.
During my time in HR, I reviewed countless resumes and conducted many interviews.
Unfortunately, I saw too many participants turned down for simple mistakes.
Here’s what you need to know:
Make Your Resume Keyword-Rich
Job descriptions often include key terms like “productive,” “team player,” or specific software like “Google Docs.” If the role is customer-focused, keywords like “service” or “flexible hours” might appear. Tailor your resume to include these terms where relevant.Highlight Hospitality-Related Skills
Make sure to list all your hospitality-related jobs and skills to showcase your experience.
Not Just for Internationals
This advice isn’t limited to international travellers. Americans and Europeans can also benefit.
Travelling within your country — exploring different states or regions — is an amazing way to expand your horizons.
The work and travel program is open to everyone within a certain age range.
Many programs like MTL, Workaway and CoolWorks provide accommodation, with rent deducted from your paycheck. The hotel, country club, amusement park and restaurant offer these shared living units for workers, plus transportation to and from work.
These jobs might take you to unexpected places, like remote Alaskan towns or islands in Michigan (yes, there are islands there!).
Finding the Right Opportunity
In addition to applying to the above employment agencies, you should also start by searching for these types of jobs on Indeed.com or LinkedIn.com.
Apply through the platform, but take it a step further:
Create a keyword-rich, skill-focused resume.
Search for the company’s Human Resource Manager or Director.
Send your resume directly to them with a well-tailored, concise email.
Temporary or seasonal jobs allow you to travel and have new experiences in a different part of your country or a brand new country.
These job posts range from front desk clerk, spa attendant, cashier, cook, steward, housekeeper, concierge, server, office assistant and many others.
Final Thoughts
If you want to travel and make money at the same time, the work and travel program is an opportunity you can’t afford to miss.
Step out of your comfort zone, explore the world, and discover how much you’re capable of achieving.
